Why You Should Eat Bali Street Food?

Yes, there are thousands of high-end restaurants in Bali, but you will never find the true taste of Bali until you eat Bali street food. They are classics, affordable, and rich in flavor. In this article, we will show you five street foods in Bali you should try.

Nasi Jinggo

Nasi Jinggo is similar to nasi kucing (cat rice) in Java. Generally, this dish is wrapped in a banana leaf. Inside the leaf, you can find rice, tempeh, fried noodle, shredded chicken, and chili sauce. Usually, it’s also possible to add other side dishes like beef or egg to make the dish more delicious.

Sate Lilit

Satay is one of the popular street foods in Indonesia, including Bali. In sate lilit, the meat is generally chicken, pork, and fish. Then, it is soaked with grated coconut, coconut milk, and spices before being grilled. Usually, you will find additional sauce after the satay is grilled, you will not find it in Bali.

Babi Guling

Balinese roasted pig or Babi Guling originally was a ceremonial dish as an offering to the Balinese gods. However, you can now enjoy its taste in many places, from street food stalls to fine dining restaurants. In babi guling, the pork is infused with spices and herbs, then roasted slowly on an open fire.

Laklak

If you have a sweet taste, laklak is probably your go-to dish in Bali. At the first glance, you might think laklak is no different from pancakes, but it is different. Laklak is made from rice flour and coconut milk. Then, it is served with brown sugar sauce and grated coconut. 

Pisang Rai

Another sweet dish from Bali! Pisang Rai is a traditional Balinese snack you can enjoy in the morning. No wonder you can mostly find it in morning markets. This dish is made from bananas that are first coated with rice flour, then steamed. After that, this Bali street food is toppled over with grated coconut.
